Antiques
Antiques are generally
understood as being anything from a former period, belonging to the
past,or according to U.S.customs laws.100 years old or more.This
does not necessarily mean that the particular item in question has any
value per se.Value is determined by many other factors than
age alone. The original quality of the item for
example, the tastes of individual collectors and market
fluctuations. The cost of the item is determined by how
much someone is willing to pay for it.
Age alone is not the
only factor.many of items made today will probably not be
considered "antique" 100 years from now simply because of their
age,but the factors mentioned play a much more
influential role in
determining value.
Todays items which are
made by mass production will not hold as much value or fascination
with the antique
dealer as the items from 100 years ago which were made
painstakingly by hand.Glass antiques
for example were "blown"
exclusively by hand years ago and now many are made by pouring
molten glass into a
mold.Just as pretty perhaps but far below the value of a hand made
glass vase or bottle.
