Sisal
Rugs
A sisal rug is made from
the agave plant. most commonly found in semi-arid deserts of
Brazil,
Mexico,Africa and China.The fiber produced
from these plants is durable, stretchable, suitable to dyeing and
adaptable to be blended with other fibers such as wool to make
"sisal wool" for the making of sisal rugs.
Making Sisal
The "rosette" of the agave plant, which
blooms only once in a lifetime, is crushed so that only the fibers
remain. Then the fiber is washed and dried, either in the sun or by
hot air. Interestingly the artificial method produces the most
stable moisture content which is critical to the stabiltiy of the
fiber and your sisal rug. When the sisal fiber is blended with
wool it is in a 60
to 40 percent ratio, wool to sisal. The resulting fabric is soft and
strong.
Care and
Feeding
Your sisal rug should not be exposed to
water.it is not made for an outdoor rug. It will expand
or
contract according to the moisture content
of the air and it does not like to get wet. It is
therfore recommended
for indoors and not for bahtrooms, jacuzzi or swimming pool
areas.
The sisal rug is easy to clean. It is free from static and dirt
does not cling to it. Therefore the
best care is simply to vacuum regularly.
If you do spill something, blot and dry quickly with a
hair dryer. Do not steam clean or use
any water to clean, with the exception of a litttle soda
water
to blot if you must.
Your sisal rug
is a wonderful blend of strength, durability and beauty that will
last for many years
with the proper care and
attention.
